Growth marketing for climate tech & energy

Turn pilots and trials into signed contracts with industrial buyers.

Climate tech growth marketing for founders selling to industry, utilities, developers and public bodies. Deals are large, technical and slow. We build the plan backwards from your revenue target. Then we run the campaigns, content workflows and AI agents that deliver it.

What climate tech growth marketing means

Climate tech growth marketing turns your pilots, test data and funding wins into meetings with the people who sign. That means plant managers, sustainability leads, CFOs and procurement. It starts from a revenue target. Next, it works out how many contracts, meetings and contacts that target needs. Then it picks the few channels that reach those buyers at a cost you can sustain.

What sets it apart is the gap between technical proof and a business case. Engineers want performance data. CFOs want payback, and often a link to EU funding such as the Innovation Fund. Your marketing has to serve both.

Where climate tech growth usually stalls

Six patterns that hold climate tech and energy companies back once the technology works.

01

Pilots that don't become contracts

The trial worked and the engineers were convinced. The purchase order never came.

02

Grant-driven roadmaps

Funding deadlines set the agenda. Commercial pipeline waits until next year.

03

Different buyers, same message

Operations, sustainability and finance buy for different reasons, but get the same deck.

04

Technical proof, no business case

Lab results and efficiency curves, but no payback, cost per tonne or risk story.

05

Every country is its own market

Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands each have their own subsidies, permits and buying cycles.

06

Sales hires before pipeline

A senior seller joins, and there isn't enough to work on.

Who actually buys, and what wins them

Five people, five different questions. A plan gives each of them the proof they need, in the place they look for it.

User

01

“Will it run without disrupting production?”

Plant, site or operations manager

What wins them: Trial data from a comparable site

Champion

02

“Will it help us hit our targets?”

Sustainability or energy manager

What wins them: Emissions and energy savings per year

Budget owner

03

“What's the payback, and what's the risk?”

CFO or investment committee

What wins them: A payback and funding business case

Gatekeeper

04

“Is it safe, certified and bankable?”

Procurement, engineering, HSE

What wins them: Technical files, certifications and warranties

Partner

05

“Can we install and sell it at scale?”

Integrator, EPC or engineering firm

What wins them: A partner programme and reference sites

I've spent 15+ years in growth marketing and go-to-market, both in-house and as a consultant. In that time, I've generated more than $87M in revenue for the companies I've worked with. I've led North American and European expansion for sales-led technology companies, and I've lived and worked in seven countries.

The experience that carries straight into climate tech:

  • Long, technical sales cycles with engineering and buying committees
  • Technical products that need a business case before anyone buys
  • Partner-led growth with integrators, resellers and channel partners
  • Market entry across Europe and North America
  • Automation at scale: 40+ live workflows and AI agent systems for content, CRM and reporting

Climate and energy are fields I chose deliberately. That's why I work with the companies building solutions for them. My method, Growth Clarity™, plans marketing backwards from the revenue target. I use it with every client.

Climate tech growth marketing: questions founders ask

Straight answers on climate tech growth marketing, before you book anything.

How do we turn a pilot into a commercial contract?

Agree the success metrics and the decision-maker before the pilot starts. Then report against them monthly. Plan the contract conversation from day one, not after the final report.

Should we focus on industry, utilities or the public sector first?

The funnel numbers decide. Usually, the segment with the shorter sales cycle funds the longer one. Software and service contracts often come first, while larger projects build in the background.

How does marketing work with grants and subsidies?

Funding is part of the business case, not the plan itself. We map which programmes your buyers can use. Then we show the numbers with and without them.

Why fractional rather than a full-time hire?

A senior full-time hire means a full salary, months of recruiting and a long ramp-up. By contrast, fractional brings senior judgement from the first week at 2 to 3 days a week. You can also scale it up or down.

What do automation and AI agents actually do?

They take the repetitive work: monitoring funding calls and tenders, researching accounts, drafting content, logging contacts, sending follow-ups and building reports. Strategy, messaging and every approval stay with people.

Do you work with our existing tools?

Yes. I work with the CRM, email and analytics tools you already use. I only suggest changes when a gap is costing you deals.
